NuWave Investment Corp. - established 2000

The firm’s principals, Troy Buckner and John Ryan, have extensive experience in the investment industry and have worked together closely within the same organization since 1993. Recognizing their complementary strengths, Mr. Buckner and Mr. Ryan have since combined efforts to create and manage unique investment methodologies under the NuWave Investment Corp. umbrella. Unlike many of those with innovative ideas new to the market, the principals at NuWave have extensive experience in quantitative research, execution, state-of-the-art systems, and money management, that will aid the firm in diversifying and enhancing investor returns.

Biographies of the Principals

Troy W. Buckner - Principal, CEO

Mr. Buckner is an industry veteran who began his career at Salomon Brothers, Inc. as a derivatives and portfolio sales specialist in 1986. In 1989 Mr. Buckner left Salomon Brothers to trade energy derivatives proprietarily at George E. Warren Corporation and in 1991 started his own business to focus on the design and implementation of sophisticated trading models that would eventually support NuWave Investment Corp. Mr. Buckner joined Classic Capital in 1994 as a principal with responsibility for the design and execution of both futures and U.S. equity investment models. In 1995 Mr. Buckner joined Hyman Beck & Company as a principal to develop systematic investment strategies capable of trading the world’s liquid futures and currency markets. His extensive research into innovative, non-correlated investment programs is complemented by years of trading experience and an in-depth understanding of market theory. From March 2003 through June 2007 Mr. Buckner was listed as a principal and AP of Mt. Kemble Futures, a registered IB set up to service the needs of potential NuWave Investment Corp. clients in need of a clearing relationship. As of August 2006 Mr. Buckner is listed as a Principal of NuWave Investment Management LLC, a registered CTA and CPO. NuWave Investment Management LLC has been created as part of a corporate restructuring that will, over time, replace NuWave Investment Corp as “Trading Advisor” on all client contracts. The business conducted by NuWave Investment Corp. and NuWave Investment Management LLC is one and the same, and all personnel are the same for both corporate entities. Mr. Buckner graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Delaware in 1984 with a double major (finance/accounting) and a minor (economics) before earning his M.B.A from the University of Chicago in 1986.

John S. Ryan - Principal, COO

Mr. Ryan began his career in 1988 at IBM, where he designed corporate networks in New York City.  Specializing in systems and communications, he implemented custom solutions for top NYC law firms and universities.  After five years at IBM, Mr. Ryan was recruited by Hyman Beck & Company to head their technology effort, where he held the titles of Principal and Director of Technology.  He is credited with helping to build the infrastructure and research effort that was critical to their success, up until the time of his departure.  Since joining NuWave in March of 2001 as Chief Technology Officer and Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Ryan has also been actively involved with research and development, where his programming and quantitative skills have been utilized in the design of NuWave’s trading systems and electronic trading infrastructure.  As of August 2006 Mr. Ryan is listed as a Principal of NuWave Investment Management LLC, a registered CTA and CPO. NuWave Investment Management LLC has been created as part of a corporate restructuring that will, over time, replace NuWave Investment Corp as “Trading Advisor” on all client contracts. The business conducted by NuWave Investment Corp. and NuWave Investment Management LLC is one and the same, and all personnel are the same for both corporate entities. Mr. Ryan earned his B.B.A degree in Computer Information Systems from Bernard Baruch College, City University of New York. 

Yury V. Orlov - Principal, Director of Research

Dr. Orlov began his professional career in 1986 at the Nuclear Physics Institute, Moscow State University where he held the title of Research Scientist until October 2003.  The principals of NuWave engaged Dr. Orlov as an off-site consultant beginning in 1997, and by January of 2000 he had become integral in the design of NuWave’s advanced electronic execution and modeling software.  In October of 2003 Dr. Orlov moved to the United States, joining NuWave as a Principal in their New Jersey offices.  As of August 2006 Mr. Orlov is listed as a Principal of NuWave Investment Management LLC, a registered CTA and CPO. NuWave Investment Management LLC has been created as part of a corporate restructuring that will, over time, replace NuWave Investment Corp as “Trading Advisor” on all client contracts. The business conducted by NuWave Investment Corp. and NuWave Investment Management LLC is one and the same, and all personnel are the same for both corporate entities. Dr. Orlov’s expertise is in the area of pattern recognition, genetic algorithms, time series analysis, and programming. He obtained his Master's Degree in Physics in 1983 and his PhD in Time Series Segmentation and Pattern Recognition, both from Moscow State University. Dr. Orlov has authored or co-authored more than 50 publications relating to his specialties and has been published in several scientific journals.

Infrastructure

Programming/Information Technology

NuWave employs a team of programmers highly specialized in the area of financial application design. Fluent in high-level languages, database systems and telecommunications, NuWave's programming team is at the top of its class.

Accounting/Operations

NuWave maintains various proprietary applications to manage risk across portfolios and to perform in-house accounting/auditing functions. The department is managed by Michele Chirico, Managing Director. Ms. Chirico has extensive industry experience and has been a colleague of Mr. Buckner and Mr. Ryan since 1993.

Trading

NuWave utilizes its proprietary trading architecture, in addition to other electronic platforms, to execute trades across portfolios. Experience in trade execution and portfolio management, reduces slippage and enhances investor returns. Trading is a multi-pronged effort comprised of Mr. Buckner, Mr. Ryan and Tom Braddock, Managing Director. Mr. Braddock's responsibilities include supervising the trading desk and participating in the management of Combined Futures Portfolio.  Mr. Braddock has extensive industry experience and has been a colleague of Mr. Buckner and Mr. Ryan since 1998.
